TISS is an interdisciplinary consortium sponsored by three North Carolina research universities – Duke University, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. North Carolina Central University is an affiliate with representation on the TISS Board. The purpose of TISS is to promote communication, education, and research in the field. To that end we organize events, promote public interest in issues of national and international security, foster research, and offer executive education programs. Our members are drawn from faculty educated in STEM fields, social sciences, and humanities, as well as retired and active members of the diplomatic and armed services. All share an interest in national and international security. The TISS definition of security is broad and our members pursue both traditional and new “security” concerns. A list of those issues on which we currently focus can be found to the left of this page.
