Young Turks

The Young Turks and Ottoman Sultans Project is very similar in intention to the New Faces project – it is designed to provide critical feedback to young scholars. In contrast to New Faces, however, it is focused on the work of those scholars studying civil-military relations.

Challenging views on civil-military relations argued by TISS political scientists and historians a decade ago were a number of young scholars.  Several of these took part in an October 2013 workshop in Chapel Hill: Caitlin Talmadge, Ph.D. (George Washington University); MAJ Scott Smitson (The United States Military Academy at West Point); Ionut Popescu (Ph.D. Candidate, Duke University); LTC Heidi Urben, Ph.D. (The United States Military Academy at West Point); Andrew Bell (Ph.D. Candidate, Duke University); Lindsay Cohn, Ph.D. (The University of Northern Iowa); Kyle Dropp (Ph.D. Candidate, Stanford University); MAJ James Golby, Ph.D. (The United States Military Academy at West Point).
