Curriculum in Peace, War, and Defense (UNC)

The Curriculum in Peace, War, and Defense (PWAD) is an interdisciplinary undergraduate curriculum at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a wide range of approaches to the fundamental issues of human conflict and national and global security and defense.


American Grand Strategy (Duke)

Duke University’s Program in American Grand Strategy (AGS) aims to prepare the next generation of strategists by studying past generations and interacting with current strategic leaders. AGS is a research community of faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates who are committed to deepening their understanding of America’s role in the world – past, present, and future.


School of Public and International Affairs (NC State)

Created in 2006, the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) at North Carolina State University offers a wide range of programs through the Political Science and Public Administration departments, the International Studies graduate program, the Leadership in the Public Sector undergraduate program, and the Public Safety Leadership Initiative.


Energy and Security Initiative (NC State)

The Energy and Security Initiative (ESI), based at North Carolina State University, promotes collaborative and interdisciplinary research on the complex links between energy and security.


TISS–ICCAE for the Study of Intelligence and Security

As part of TISS’ programming, the consortium’s member institutions established an Intelligence Community Center of Academic Excellence (ICCAE). Since its creation in 2014, the ICCAE has promoted the study of intelligence and security across the four campuses – Duke, NC Central, NC State, and UNC – to foster a clear understanding of the role played by intelligence in national and international security. Our goal is to help create an informed citizenry and to ensure the next generation who choose a life of public service will have the analytical skills and knowledge to meet the challenges of a complex and rapidly changing security environment.


College of International Security Affairs (National Defense University)

The College of International Security Affairs (CISA) is one of National Defense University’s five colleges. CISA educates students from across the international, interagency, and interservice communities. Graduates include alumni from over 100 partner nations and every major US federal executive agency. TISS and CISA have been partners since 2013.


Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security

Based at Duke University, the mission of the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security (TCTHS) is to enhance the understanding of terrorism and the means to combat it through education, research and the development of partnerships between universities, industry and government. Founded in 2005, the TCTHS faculty conduct research, comment on current events and policy debates, and run executive education programs.
