AGS Summer Salon #1: Professor Myrick, Arrival (film)

Our first Summer Salon Series event will be a discussion of the film Arrival (2016) directed by Denis Villeneuve, a story about a linguistics professor (played by Amy Adams) who attempts to communicate with extraterrestrial visitors that suddenly arrive in 12 locations across the globe (trailer available here). Professor Rachel Myrick (Political Science) will moderate an informal discussion on reactions to the film and what it reveals about prospects for international coordination and cooperation during times of crisis. Participants should watch Arrival in advance of the session. Arrival is available through Duke University Libraries and can be found for a small fee on streaming services such as Amazon, Youtube and Apple TV.
No other advance preparation is needed; this event will be recorded.
