The TISS “New Faces” project is one of the flagship programs of the Triangle Institute for Security Studies. Its objective is to foster a generation of future leaders who can bring to bear on national problems keen powers of analysis and clear communication skills. You can read more about the program under TISS Research. It is now nearly twenty years since our inaugural conference and we are proud to include in our number some one hundred and fifty “old” TISS New Faces. A few have joined one or more of our constituent universities as faculty members, while many more participated in our events, All are honored members of the TISS family.

Biography
David C. Carlson, Ph.D. is the archivist of the Bexar County Spanish Archives. A deputy of the County Clerk, he has served Bexar County, Texas, since 2012. An avid genealogist, professional historian, cyclist, muzzle loader, “living historian/reenactor,” home brewer and bibliophile, Dr. Carlson worked formerly as an assistant professor of U.S. and Latin American history at the University of Texas-Pan American. He received his doctorate in modern Latin American history at the University of North Carolina—Chapel Hill in 2007. He lives with his wife, a librarian at A&M San Antonio, and his rescued dachshund-poodle-chihuahua-mix in a 1920s-era house near Woodlawn Lake in San Antonio, TX.
